BBC Dampens Arlene Phillips 'Strictly Come Dancing' Speculation (EXCLUSIVE)

Rumours that Arlene Phillips is set to return to Strictly Come Dancing have been downplayed by the BBC.

A Strictly spokeswoman has told The Huffington Post UK: "No decision has been made on the next series of Strictly yet."

Earlier today The Sun reported that the former Strictly judge had been in talks with BBC bosses about regaining her seat on the ballroom panel following Alesha Dixon's defection to rival Simon Cowell's show Britain's Got Talent.

However, the spokesperson said: "Arlene did meet with someone from the BBC but it was a meeting arranged well before Christmas, well before Alesha announced she was leaving and it was just a catch up/touch base meeting.

"Strictly and her return (or not) to it were not discussed."

And while names continue to be banded about as to who will fill Alesha's boots, including ex-Strictly professional dancer Karen Hardy, Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey and former contestant Kara Tointon, the BBC say discussions about who will replace her haven't even begun.

The spokeswoman said: "No decision will be made for a while yet so any names at all you hear that are in the running are all purely speculative. The genre controller and channel controller have not even discussed the casting of the next series yet."

Arlene has also commented on her rumoured return to the show, telling the Daily Mail: "I've tried to put everything from Strictly aside and move on with my life. I'm content with doing what I'm doing. I don't need it anymore."

'Only Fools And Horses' Gets An American Remake

Del Boy and Rodney's wheeling and dealing adventures are to be relived stateside for an American version of Only Fools And Horses.

A pilot show, written by Scrubs writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, has been commissioned for ABC, 30 years after the BBC first aired the sitcom sensation.

Trotters Independent Trading ceased business in the UK in 1996 as Del Boy and Rodney finally become millionaires, but now two American stars are set to try their luck at getting rich.

The US pilot will closely follow the basic premise of the BBC One comedy, centring on "the misadventures of two streetwise brothers and their ageing grandfather as they concoct outrageous, morally questionable get-rich-quick schemes in a bid to become millionaires".

Only Fools and Horses' famous catchphrases such as "plonker" may not transfer well to a US audience, but it's hoped the very British comedy will see the sort of popularity Ricky Gervais' The Office received in America, rather than the lacklustre reception given to repackaged popular shows like Dad's Army and Are You Being Served.

It's not known who will take over from David Jason as Del Boy and who will take Nicholas Lyndhurst's role as Rodney yet. However, the American star of The Office Steve Carell previously told The Sun he would love to appear as Del., saying: "That is my dream role. The British do sitcoms better than anybody else in the world. I think with the right scriptwriters and cast we could do Only Fools and Horses justice. If anybody wants to help me do a remake, I'd love it."

Strictly Come Dancing Live: Harry Judd Still Setting The Dancefloor Alight

Harry Judd is still taking the dancefloor by storm more than a month after he lifted the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy in the BBC1 ballroom show final.

The McFly drummer proved he's still got it as he performed a perfect pair of routines, to great applause, with his professional partner Aliona Vilani, at the 02 Arena in London on Saturday night.

Strictly's fiercest judge Craig Revel-Horwood even gave him his greatest accolade to date, claiming: "I only wish I could dance like you."

This was not a sign of Craig's icey comments thawing, though, as he dug out insult after insult for the rest of Strictly's alumni, saving his harshest jibe for swimmer Mark Foster, whom he previously called a "stick insect on acid" during his 2008 appearance on Strictly.

Noticeably absent from the judging line-up was Alesha Dixon, whose defection to Simon Cowell's reality show Britain's Got Talent led to her chair being removed and used for Nancy Dell'Olio's diva-ish behind instead.

Also missing was Russell Grant, whose camp antics - including being fired out of a canon - helped make this year's Strictly the most popular series yet.

However, whatever was absent by way of Russell's white satin outfits and flapping hands was more than made up with the racy banter coming from the judges and contestants alike. It was like Strictly Come Panto as sexual innuendo after innuendo come flying out of the stars' mouths.

While the children in the audience, including supermodel Kate Moss's daughter Lila Grace, looked on in bemusement, adults cringed and laughed as Nancy Dell'Olio came on to Craig, insisting he had "feelings deep deep down for her" and Bruno Tonioli failed to keep his tongue in as Mark rippped off his shirt to reveal "perfection".

However, even Mark's promise to strip to his tight Speedos if the audience voted for him didn't deter Harry from being crowned Strictly champion for the second time.

While most stars, including "pocket rocket" Chelsee Healey and showman Jason Donovan had retained their ability to jive, there was one who had suffered a noticeable decline in dancing ability...

After nearly falling over as he flew over his partner Katya Virshilas' head, Robbie Savage headed straight to the bottom of the leader board, below even Nancy Dell'Olio. The Italian diva barely raised a toe for the whole show, instead choosing to sit on her backside, with Artem dancing around her and being carried on to the stage as Cleopatra on an Egyptian sedan chair.

Shirley MacLaine has signed up to star in the third series of Downton Abbey.

The American actress, best known for her Oscar-winning role in Terms Of Endearment, will play Lady Grantham's (Elizabeth McGovern's) mother.

Downton's executive producer Gareth Neame said: "My late grandfather directed Shirley MacLaine in Gambit in 1966 so it is a delight for me that she will be joining us on Downton Abbey.

"Julian has written another brilliant character in Martha Levinson, who will be a wonderful combatant for Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess and we are excited at the prospect of Shirley MacLaine playing her."

The irreverent actress whose illustrious career comprises more than 50 feature films will join the cast on the set of of Julian Fellowes' Golden Globe Award-winning period drama next month, when filming for series three gets underway.

The next instalment will be set in the 1920s and McGovern recently revealed to The Sun that, along with it having a Stateside feel, there will also be two weddings on the cards. However, she didn't say if they would be upstairs or downstairs nuptials.

Laura Mackie, Director of Drama at ITV said, "It is so exciting to have an actress of Shirley MacLaine's stature joining our brilliant Downton Abbey cast for series three and a tribute to the show's success on both sides of the Atlantic."

Daniel Radcliffe Confesses To Being 'Still Drunk' On Harry Potter Set

Daniel Radcliffe has closed the door on his time as teenage wizard Harry Potter, taking on the mature role of a father in the big screen adaptation of ghost story Woman in Black. Alongside this on-screen maturity, Radcliffe has revealed a more revelatory side than we are used to. In an interview with Heat magazine, he's opened up about stripping off for Equus, his love for his girlfriend Rosie, his problem with alcohol and how he deals with female attention. Read the best bits below...

On his Potter co-star Rupert Grint's hunky new body:

"I'm not going to try to compete with Rupert on the arms front. His dad is a big guy, so if anyone was going to get the proper muscleman build, it was Rupert. You'd have to search pretty hard to find a more handsome ginger. He's also a dude. I wish I could be that calm. I'm lucky to have found an industry where this level of hyperactivity is encouraged. Otherwise I'd just be a f**king nuisance!"

On stripping off for Equus and 'landscaping' his pubic hair for a new role:

"I'm comfortable with my body. It's funny, actually, I've just been having a discussion with the guy who's directing my new project. It might have a bit of nudity and he said, 'Just to let you know, if you're getting naked, no landscaping of any kind. This is the '40s and you're playing a Jew.' I was like, 'Pretty much there anyway, mate! Not a huge amount of maintenance going on.' I mean, there's a little bit, obviously, for courtesy. [Pauses.] This is way too much information, but I don't like girls with nothing down there either. It freaks me out. You have to have something, otherwise it's f**king creepy."

On girlfriend Rosie Cocker (his production-assistant girlfriend, who he met on the set of Harry Potter):

"She's lovely. She's a wonderful, wonderful girl, who's far too good for me. I find myself constantly going, 'Shit, you don't know what you're in for yet.'"

"She's going to kill me for telling you this, because she keeps saying, 'Dan, stop making me sound so f**king bossy.' The thing is, she's not. But we've just been away for a few days and I went straight home, while she had to go to her parents'. I got a call from her at lunchtime when she'd just arrived at our house and she goes, 'OK. Just going to start by saying you're a disgusting human being.' I was like, 'Why?', knowing full well what I'd done. The place had been spotless and I came home and exploded. Everything went everywhere. But it's not just the messy stuff; she's incredibly tolerant of me. I have a very busy personality.'

On his 'busy' personality:

"I never stop talking. I'm obsessive. I obsess over things she's not in the least bit interested in but she has to hear about, because I have no one else to talk to about them. Cricket, Fantasy Football, Fantasy NFL… I can also be quite insecure. A lot of actors have self-doubt. I live under that the whole time and it's how I function best. I think she puts up with a lot; she says she doesn't."

On drinking:

"I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem. People with problems like that are very adept at hiding it. It was bad. I don't want to go into details, but I drank a lot and it was daily – I mean nightly. I can honestly say I never drank at work on Harry Potter. I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work. I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes."

"I think it's just in me. I loved the fact that suddenly I could talk to people and feel so entertaining and so interesting. But after a while, you're living under such a cloud of shame about what you've done and the dread of who you might see, what you might have said to them, what you might have done with them. You either have to change something or give in to that shame, and I wasn't prepared to do that at 21."

On dealing with female attention:

"I was always very nervous about the groupie thing. I like to like somebody before I sleep with them, I really do. You know you're going to have to talk to them afterwards, even if it is a one-night stand. I have… I mean, that has happened, but generally speaking I've known the person. Apart from a few times when I was drinking. Besides, I like having a girlfriend. Someone once said to me, 'You can go outside and pick from the girls at the stage door.' And I said, 'No, that's not me.' Because, to do that, you kind of have to be a dick."

Homeland Star Damian Lewis: 'Torture Days Were Flipping Cold' (PHOTOS)

"You have to have a black man and a red head", says Damian Lewis, explaining the American success of his espionage thriller Homeland.

Lewis and his fellow Brit co-star David Harewood have received a fantastic reception in the States for their roles as Sergeant Nicholas Brody, a marine and former prisoner of war, and Director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center David Estes, respectively.

The Golden Globe Award-winning drama, which also stars Claire Danes as determined CIA agent Carrie Mathison, has taken the US by storm. It's reportedly Barack Obama's favourite television programme and The New York Post have called it "the best thriller on American TV", while the Los Angeles Times notes "it's the first telling of a post-9/11 story that is all the things it should be: politically resonant, emotionally wrenching and plain old thrilling to watch."

Now Lewis and Harewood are getting the chance to show off their lauded work back home, as Channel 4 brings the drama, loosely based on Gideon Raff's Israeli television series Prisoners of War, to UK screens in February.

The compelling series centres on an American soldier (Brody) who was taken prisoner during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Left for dead, he miraculously returns to the US after years in captivity and the nation welcomes home their tightly-wound hero CIA officer. Carrie Anderson, who is battling her own psychological demons, is solely convinced that all is not as innocent as it seems.

Carrie puts her career on the line as she pursues her theory that the intelligence behind his rescue was a setup - and that he may be connected to an Al-Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil.

At a sneak preview of Homeland at BAFTA's headquarters, with Lewis and Harewood on hand to discuss their roles, it is clear that Homeland is going to become addictive. It's not just a brilliantly-plotted espionage thriller with compelling and fascinating characters, it's also a brave exploration of the difficulties of fighting terrorism a decade after September 11.

But how did they feel when they received the script for the first time - were they sure they were on to a winner?

"It was very exciting. The show sets itself up as a thriller and of course there's a page turner left at the end as he's standing staring at the White House. But what struck me was what they took on thematically, in just an hour's worth of TV. The depth both in incident and character is something we don't see over here," explains Lewis.

Homeland's success is somewhat surprising in a sense as it's based on a very un-American concept of a traitor within, but Lewis thinks the show's come at a time when Americans are ready to question their own government:

"We film it down in the South surrounded by army bases and army families, if it's going to be contentious anywhere, it's going to be down there. Because the show is certainly left-of-centre politically.

"What's interesting is none of us expected 9/11 to happen, the CIA knew all about it and failed to prevent it from happening, but now we all know much more and there's an even greater sense of uncertainty and paranoia about the way our own governments have acted and this show's reflective of where we are now 10 years later."

Terrorism and conspiracies aren't the only sensitive topics that the show handles with taste. Also included are mental health issues. The show's leading lady is suffering from a bi-polar disorder and Sgt. Brody from post traumatic stress.

Commenting on his co-star who won a Best Actress Globe for her role as Carrie this month and whom he affectionally calls "Danesey", Lewis says: "It's a brave thing to attempt to insert a bi-polar disorder into the heart of a paranoid thriller. It can easily be seen as a gimmick but it conveniently allows us to judge her and wonder whether she's actually suffering from bouts of insanity as to whether we believe her or Brody. You'll see they don't shirk away from it and they embrace it, so I think it's well done."

Homeland isn't an easy watch, there are dark scenes of torture as Brody flashes back to his time of imprisonment in Iraq. But while they're hard on viewers' eyes, Lewis soon learned how to handle them:

"Torture days were flipping cold because you're naked, they're distressing. It was cut here but I had a screwdriver screwed into my shoulder. It leaves me needing a beer after but I don't take my work home with me, I'm not a method actor. I fully engage in my imagination and the imagined world while I'm on set but then I forget all about it - probably too easily."

'Homeland' Star David Harewood Tells Young Black Actors To 'Go To America'

Homeland star David Harewood has criticised the lack of opportunities for young black actors in the UK and advised them to head Stateside to find stardom.

Speaking at a screening for the hit Golden Globe-winning US espionage thriller series, in which he stars as the Director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center David Estes alongside Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, he said: "For me there really aren't that many roles for strong authoritative black characters in this country. We just don't like those characters, that's a fact, so many of my contemporaries have gone to America."

The British actor, who was recently awarded an MBE, continued: "I can remember talking to Idris Elba years ago about his frustrations and he told me 'I'm going to America' and I thought 'what are you doing that for?' but look at him now - the guy's a huge star, so he made the right decision.

"Now he comes back and the BBC give him Luther. He cracked it, and now he can come back and he's a national treasure. I knew I kind of needed to do it, I simply wouldn't have been given a role that big with that much authority here in the UK."

Harewood added: "I would encourage young black actors to get to America, they do seem to embrace a more diverse set."

Eamonn Holmes, This Morning Presenter, Asks Sex Addict Why She Doesn't Charge

Eamonn Holmes shocked viewers of This Morning after he asked a female sex addict why she "doesn't make a business of it" and turn to prostitution.

The ITV presenter questioned Crystal Warren - who claimed to have slept with more than 1,000 men - on whether she'd ever thought of "charging for it" on Tuesday's programme.

Holmes casually enquired: "If you need this five or six times a day, have you never thought about making a business of it?"

Warren replied: "What, becoming a prostitute?

"Then it becomes a business, then I become maybe like a robot. This way I am enjoying it, I do it when I want to do it, I get to choose who I sleep with."

An ITV spokesman told The Sun: "Eamonn's question was in the context of a wider balanced and frank interview and we have had no complaints."

However, Doctor Thaddeus Birchard, who specialises in sex addiction, told the Daily Mail: "It was an irresponsible comment."

He added: "It shows no understanding of the true nature of sex addiction."

Holmes' foot in mouth comments come after he told a rape victim "I hope you take taxis now" during an episode of This Morning in October 2011.

Geordie Shore Review: Series 2 Kicks Off To More Negative Reactions

Geordie Shore returned to TV last night for more romps, rows and drink-fuelled antics filmed in the centre of Newcastle's nightlife.

Not a lot has changed, despite Charlotte telling us recently: "I've learned a lot from the first series, I hate what I was like, I was like a little girl."

However, there were two new perma-tanned faces, Ricci and Rebecca, who wasted no time in getting involved in all the getting 'lashed', laid and bitching. The eight stars of the show were also treated to some new decor inside their pad. But the likelihood of it still looking like a plush warehouse at the end of the series is pretty slim.

Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah this week raised her concerns over the programme, saying: "Geordie Shore is not representative of Newcastle or Geordies.

"If people feel that the show does not represent Newcastle they should complain to Ofcom."

And after last night's episode, viewers could be forgiven for being confused as to just what planet the stars are from, let alone whether they're really the face of Newcastle.

One show review, on Entertainmentwise, reported: "The decidedly un-glossy feel of Geordie Shore narrows its audience down to a very small demographic of people who have enough exposure to this kind of lifestyle to see the entertainment in it. Everyone else is advised to stick to the comparatively innocent simplicity of TOWIE."

And a critic for the Metro wrote: "I can usually take a fair amount of slop before I start with the moral proselytising and mourning of the death of television and I must confess to at times being amused and grimly entertained by this opening episode, but after an hour of wayward genitalia, shag pads in sheds and unprotected underwater sex, even the bawdiest DC's (daft c****s, thanks Vicky) can't help but be scornful."

Meanwhile, comedian Jack Whitehall joked:

Other viewers expressed their distaste for all the the drinking, partying, dry-humping and humping crammed into just the first episode of series two. One wrote on Twitter:

Don Cornelius, the creator of Soul Train, was found dead at his home this morning.

Celebrity website TMZ have reported that the 75-year-old "appears to have committed suicide".

They wrote: "We're told cops discovered the body at around 4 AM PT. Law enforcement sources tell us ... Cornelius died from a gunshot wound to the head and officials believe the wound was self-inflicted."

The American television show presenter hosted the nationally-syndicated dance/music franchise Soul Train from 1971-1993, a show inspired by his realisation in the sixties that there was no television venue in the US for soul music.

In its heyday, the programme was essential viewing, and afforded many of the generation's greatest soul and R&B acts - including James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin - important national television exposure that fuelled all their careers.

This Week In Entertainment: Keira Knightley, SAG Awards, Steve Jones, Sharon Watts And Shirley MacLaine

The race to Oscars' gold warmed up on Sunday night as the Screen Actors Guild Awards handed out three of its five most coveted gongs to 1960s civil rights drama The Help, knocking previous front runner The Artist off its black-and-white, silent horse.

The strong, mainly female, cast of the film received the association's top honour, the SAG ensemble award. Viola Davis was named best lead actress and Octavia Spencer best supporting actress for their roles as black maids in the adaptation of the bestselling novel by Kathryn Stockett.

Meanwhile, on the film circuit, Keira Knightley made jaws drop as she came out with one of her raciest red carpet comments yet. Speaking at a gala screening for her latest film, A Dangerous Method, the actress joked that only the British have taken such a keen interest in the sadomasochistic scenes shown in the movie.

The Pirates of The Caribbean star said: "I did think about turning it down because of the two scenes of a sadomasochistic nature... In England it's got mentioned all the time. I don't know what that says about us. We obviously like spanking, I don't know."

She also told The Sun she went through a phase of making sex faces at herself in the bathroom mirror to improve her part in the drama, in which she plays psycho-analyst Carl Jung's patient and lover Sabina Spielrein.

In the world of TV it was all change this week, as stars were fired, hired and announced for sensational comebacks...

Stateside, Welsh presenter Steve Jones was given his marching orders from X Factor USA by Simon Cowell, after failing to impress American viewers with his hosting skills. However, the former T4 presenter can take some solace in the fact that judge Nicole Scherzinger has announced her exit to pursue her "music career", and Paula Abdul is also confirmed to be joining the pair on Simon's scrapheap.

Downton Abbey announced it will be adding another Oscar-winner to its prestigious cast. American actress Shirley MacLaine, best known for her role in Terms Of Endearment, will play Lady Grantham's (Elizabeth McGovern's) mother and is lined up to take on Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess in the witty comments stakes.

And finally, EastEnders is set to see a sensational comeback from one of its original cast members. Actress Letitia Dean will head back to Walford as bolshy Sharon Watts for her third stint on the soap. We last saw her on the Square in 2006 after her husband Dennis Rickman died in her arms. Meanwhile, on the Street, Terry Duckworth (Nigel Pivaro) is ready to make a return, with all the accompanying shenanigans his appearance inevitably entails.

Being Human Review: Series 4 Hailed The Best Yet

Being Human star Lenora Crichlow certainly wasn't left holding the supernatural baby as the new series of the hit BBC3 show returned to the screens.

After Aidan Turner and Russell Tovey announced they were leaving the sci-fi drama there were fears Crichlow - the only remaining original cast member - would have her work cut out rekindling the on-screen magic she shared with them as three complex and isolated characters on the fringes of a society that hates them.

However, reactions to the new line-up and the new series, in which viewers were introduced properly to werewolf Tom (Michael Socha) whilst Mitchell (Tovey) played his final scenes, and Damien Molony, who has been drafted in to play resident vampire, Hal, were overwhelmingly positive.

Commenting on Tovey's departure The Metro said:

"In a mostly fully clad farewell, the whole werewolf transformation thing was kept pretty low-key until his fine final hour, writer Toby Whithouse leaving the door ever so slightly ajar for George to return.

But every end is a beginning and, in the newbies, Being Human has promising signs of fresh life. Chief among them is Damien Molony's vampire Hal."

SFX also praised the new lead characters:

"Michael Socha is downright hilarious, and looks like he'll be providing many of the comedy highlights from now on (loved his sledgehammer-subtle hints about moving into Honolulu Heights). Damien Molony doesn't really get enough screen-time to show what he can do (killing two characters, introducing another and launching an arc plot is rather a lot to cram into one episode) but shows considerable promise.

But the character I really can't wait to see more of is Cutler, Andrew Gower's dryly humorous vampire. Tellingly, I didn't miss Mitchell for a moment."

The Independent congratulated the new look Being Human:

"Eve of the War has shown how the look and feel of Being Human has now changed and it is a change for the better. The acting and comedy were always brilliant but finally the production values match the script."

And The Radio Times said: "Verdict? Very, very interesting... it's definitely not over yet. And there is life after John Mitchell."

As the Queen marks the 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne, now seems a fitting time to take stock of what she's achieved since becoming Queen Elizabeth II at just 25 years old.

Tonight, in the first episode of a three-part documentary exploring her life and achievements, Andrew Marr is given the best access, short of actually sitting down with the monarch, to see what she's really like.

In Diamond Queen, he hears from other members of the royal family, including Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Edward and Princess Anne, who reveal some of the nifty skills she's picked up from decades of walkabouts, state visits and receptions.

Marr also chats to David Cameron, Tony Blair and John Major - just three of the 12 prime ministers during her reign - who have nothing but admiration for Her Majesty.

Since the age of 10 she's known she would become Queen and her life since 1952 has been filled with duty, routine, reading and ritual, but Marr, writing on the Radio Times website says: "I found very many people - politicians, civil servants, friends of the family - talking at length about how witty the Queen is.

"But I noticed that when I asked for examples, they tended to tell me what they had said to her, before sitting back with a pleased beam."

Hear their examples - at least - tonight at 9pm on BBC1.

Andrew Garfield has donned the famous red and blue 'unitard', swinging into action in the new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, debuted last night.

The 3D reboot of Marvel's flagship superhero story, in cinemas 3 July, stars Garfield - best known for his role in The Social Network - and girl of the moment Emma Stone, as Spider-Man's romantic interest Gwen Stacy.

Speaking at a New York City movie multiplex, in a presentation of new footage from the highly-anticipated film, Garfield told the audience: "I'm terrified right now."

However, his fears are well hidden in the trailer, which shows him transform from a young Peter Parker into a crime fighting, building scaling superhero, in the "untold story" of how high school student Parker stumbles across a mysterious briefcase and begins to delve into the disappearance of his parents.

Lily Collins Snow White Trailer: New Glimpse Of 'Mirror Mirror' Film (VIDEO)

Another glimpse of Lily Collins' feisty take on Snow White in the forthcoming re-imagined Snow White fairytale Mirror Mirror has been unveiled.

The 22-year-old British actress is stepping out from the shadows of her very famous father - Phil Collins - to star alongside Oscar-winner Julia Roberts as the famous spirited orphan, helped by seven dwarf friends.

However, Mirror Mirror: The Untold Adventures Of Snow White turns the traditional story on its over-played head, swapping Doppy, Bashful and Grumpy for " a band of diminutive highway robbers", who rescue Snow White as she attempts to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen (Roberts).

Thankfully, Collins' portrayal also appears different to Kristen Stewart's recent role as Snow White in Snow White And The Huntsman, taking on a more familiar family friendly tone.

Julia Roberts' portrayal of the evil queen less chilling than Charlize Theron's, and Collins has done away with the "damsel in distress" routine.

The film, in cinemas 6 April, also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Alcott, Sean Bean (The Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as the King and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) as the Queen's hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.

'Smash' Reviews Roundup: What We've Got To Look Forward To (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Smash, the hugely anticipated musical TV series from Steven Spielberg, starring Oscar-winner Anjelica Huston and former Will & Grace actress Debra Messing, received a lot of hype before its primetime airing on NBC in America last night.

Luckily for all the big stars involved in the show, which centres around the making of a Marilyn Monroe Broadway musical, the first episode has received a resounding applause from US critics.

The big money production, which stars Brit actor Jack Davenport as sleazy but talented director Derek Willis, and American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee and Broadway diva Megan Hilty as two very talented actresses vying for the part of Marilyn, is set to come to UK screens via Sky Atlantic in April.

Here's what the critics are saying just one episode in...

Entertainment Weekly wrote:

"This was one damn lively show with a lot of promise. I'm a sucker for behind-the-scenes stories, for how-they-do-it productions, for catty exposes of how dirty one's hands must get to create a gleaming-bright spectacle."

The Wall Street Journal said:

"After weeks and weeks of advertising, Smash premieres. The show seems to have a lot of promise, and the musical numbers dazzled."

The Hollywood Reporter admitted:

"It looks and feels like a well-written, tightly focused adult drama more likely to be found on cable (NBC didn't tamper with its intellectual DNA) than anywhere else. That doesn't mean it's going to be a hit, nor even acclaimed going forward. But it's a hell of a start."

And Starpulse gushed:

"Smash is the best new show of this TV season, and it should live up to its title."

Dredd: Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby In New First Look Photos

Dredd starring Olivia Thirlby and Karl Urban is not expected for release until the end of the year, but that hasn't stopped the film's producers from issuing some teaser photos of the pair opposite each other in the futuristic action film.

The film, directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) and written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), is a completely new adaptation of the 2000AD comics story and is not connected to the poorly received 1995 film, Judge Dredd, starring Sylvester Stallone.

Urban (JJ Abrams' Star Trek) stars as Judge Dredd, Thirlby (Juno) as the rookie Judge Anderson, and Lena Headey (300) as the villain, Madeline Madrigal, in a city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner.

The film's blurb reads:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary.

The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

Lady Gaga has revealed the dark gothic theme for her next world tour, The Born This Way Ball.

The popstar leaked her tour poster online via Twitter after drinking "too much wine". The image shows Gaga in typical creative fashion, wearing a dress shaped like a triangular piano, accompanied by four admiring men in sharp suits, standing under part of a castle complete with turrets, while an image of her head floats mystically in the dark clouds.

The 2012-2013 tour to celebrate her second album sees The Marry The Night singer add a darker twist to the famously outlandish stage performances of her previous Monster Ball tour, set in modern-day New York City.

Along with debuting the tour poster, the 2012 Grammy performer has also treated her millions of fans to a first look at an intricate sketch.

It reveals the Born This Way Ball stage will take the form of a gothic castle, complete with viewing towers, crucifix-esque carvings, with what looks like a city in the background, and a catwalk that will allow her to wander through the middle of her audience.

Before she revealed the photo via her Twitter account she tweeted to her almost 19m followers:

She also announced the first tour dates will be announced at 11am PST:

Grammy Awards 2012: Brits To Back For Sunday's Big Event

Some of Britain's biggest music artists will go head-to-head with America's best performers for Grammy success on Sunday night.

Flying the flag for homegrown tunes at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards will be Adele, Coldplay, Radiohead and folk rock band Mumford and Sons, all of whom are nominated for multiple awards.

The biggest night on the music industry's calendar will also play host to Adele's highly-anticipated comeback performance. The Someone Like You singer will take to the stage for her first live show in five months after undergoing vocal chord surgery.

Adele is no stranger to Grammys success - she previously won a pair of Awards in 2009 for her debut album, 19, winning Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. However, Sunday will undoubtedly be one of the biggest nights of her career so far, as the world awaits the return of her breathtaking vocals and sees whether anything can match that night at the Brits last year.

The Rolling In The Deep singer, who's "immensely proud to have been asked to perform" is also up for six trophies: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video for Rolling In The Deep; Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for 21; and Best Pop Solo Performance for Someone Like You. She's just one nod behind Kanye West, who leads the nominations for the Grammy Awards 2012, with seven nominations altogether.

But while all eyes will no doubt be on Adele, fellow British acts Radiohead, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons will also be hoping to bring home a gong or two.

All three will be vying for Best Rock Performance, along with the Foo Fighters, and for Best Rock Song, a category The Decemberists are also hoping to win.

Mumford & Sons and their song The Cave will go up against Adele's Rolling In The Deep for Song Of The Year. Americans Bruno Mars, Kayne West and Bon Iver are also in the coveted category.

And Radiohead will battle it out against Bon Iver, Death Cab For Cutie, Foster The People and My Morning Jacket for Best Alternative Music Album.

Finally, the late Amy Winehouse is in the running for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Body And Soul duet with Tony Bennett. Coldplay are also nominated in this category, alongside Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera, Foster The People and The Black Keys.

With 110 categories and 500 nominees mainly filled with American acts, it can be hard for Brits to make their mark at the Grammys. Last year, Sir Paul McCartney and Jeff Beck walked away with nods but this year may have a little more success in the main categories.

Can Adele pip Katy Perry's poptastic tunes, Rihanna's racy routines and Gaga's eccentric energy with her classy, uncomplicated perfection? And can Radiohead, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons prove it's us Brits who really know how to rock?

We'll find out very early Monday morning, but in the meantime vote in our Poll and let us know who you want to see triumph at this year's Grammys. Share your thoughts below...
