Captain Jack Sparrow's pay packet could increase even more if the film, On Stranger Tides, does well at the box-office; the £21 million is merely a guaranteed minimum for the actor.
Depp is now earning alongside the big players such as Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson who each earn around £18 million a film.
