Justin Bieber's 18th Birthday: From 'Baby' To Man (PHOTOS)

Justin Bieber, the platinum-selling teen pop sensation, will celebrate his 18th birthday tomorrow, having achieved more in his childhood than most singers accomplish in a lifetime.

The Canadian star, who only started uploading videos of himself performing melodies in his bedroom five years ago, has so far released two number one albums, becoming the first artist to have seven songs from a debut album chart on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

He was barely into his teens when he was discovered via You Tube by talent agent Scooter Braun, who, impressed with what he saw, showed Bieber to Usher, along with Island Def Jam chairman LA Reid, who quickly signed the 15-year-old heartthrob to a recording contract.

Since then he's racked up 57 music awards, including a Brit for Best International Breakthrough Act and four MTV European Music Awards. His 3D part-biopic, part-concert, film Never Say Never grossed $100 million globally, becoming a record-breaking Box Office hit, and according to Forbes the cherubic crooner earned an estimated $53m last year.

Meanwhile, his second album My Life 2.0 quickly attained platinum status and his live shows around the world bring in $600,000 in gross ticket sales per night. Online, the music video for Bieber's hit song Baby has been viewed a record 500m times on You Tube.

The superstar has even bagged his own Disney princess by way of 19-year-old Selena Gomez, who will no doubt be glad Bieber is finally joining her in adulthood.

Bieber's millions of adoring loyal fans, named 'Beliebers', are - in part - to thank for his phenomenal success, and tomorrow they plan to give him a record breaking birthday.

Mashable reports his fans will try to break the Guinness World Record by sending 18m social media messages in a 24-hour period on his 18th birthday.

Musically Bieber may not have matured, his new vocal feature on the Far East Movement track Live My Life, out yesterday, sees him sing: "I'm gonna live my life, no matter what we party tonight, I'm gonna live my life, I know that we gonna be alright" but his style is evolving, and as he enters adulthood, the kid from Ontario continues to prove - despite music critics' original complaints - he's no one-hit wonder...

The Avengers Assemble trailer has hit the web and it's clear to see "war has started".

What's being called the "super hero team up of a lifetime" sees iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow partner for battle against an unexpected enemy that threatens global safety and security.

The epic trailer doesn't give away much of the plot, but the film's blurb reads:

When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

The film, set for a 26 April 2012 release, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson, and is directed by Joss Whedon.

Mark Wahlberg 'Contraband' Star: 'I'm Going To Play Gary Glitter'

"I'm going to play Gary Glitter," says Mark Wahlberg.

The Contraband star is sitting in a suite in Claridge's Hotel in London, next to a man called Howard who was, he says, the shamed pop star's manager. Wahlberg is talking about which role he'd like to play next, having made his mark in Hollywood playing a roll call of tough-men, including his acclaimed portrayal of pumped-up boxer "Irish" Micky Ward in The Fighter.

As his friend lets out an involuntary "oh no" at Wahlberg's Glitter gag, the enigmatic star quickly clarifies: "No, not really." Before adding: "I met Howard when Gary kicked him out of the house and I took him in… no, no it's all in fun."

So if he doesn't want to play the disgraced musician and convicted pedophile - what does the former rapper - then known as Marky Mark - ex-Calvin Klein model-turned-actor and producer want to tackle next?

"I just try to find new things that excite me and that I think people will enjoy watching me play," he answers, less confusingly.

Wahlberg's latest action flick Contraband sees him take on the role of a reformed drug smuggler. His likeable but hard character, Chris Farraday, works as a security alarm installer whose quiet life in New Orleans with wife Kate (played by Kate Beckinsale) is thrown into disarray when her brother's drug run goes awry dragging his family into a mob hunt.

Contraband's already a Box Office hit in America, taking $24m (£15.7m) in its opening week. What does Wahlberg think has attracted people to it?

"It's an action movie but it's also character-driven and plot-driven and I think that's what people were really excited about. They don't always do that in action movies."

The film is a remake of Icelandic film Reykjavik-Rotterdam, which Wahlberg says he "loved", however, he makes it clear Contraband is no carbon copy: "We did our own thing and kind of Americanised it, but the same guy that starred in the original and produced it also directed ours. I wouldn't say it's better - it's different, we tried to make it our own while also staying true to the original."

There are lots of tense, edge-of-your-seat moments in the action thriller, but one that was particularly difficult to watch involves Kate Beckinsale being buried alive, wrapped in plastic, while being covered in cement.

"That was her first day of shooting, talk about chucking her right into it. It was freezing cold, she is such a trooper getting right in there and doing it.

"It wasn't a dummy she got in there, when you weren't seeing her, it wasn't her in there but when I'm pulling her out and all that stuff, that's really her."

Although Wahlberg said he hasn't "really thought about" a sequel to Contraband, the film has inspired him to make a docudrama about the Port of LA. He explains, "it follows all the different law enforcement agencies that are there and trying to control some sort of order in this crazy world, with the container ships coming in out."

Wahlberg has been fortunate to have success as both an actor and a producer - his Hollywood comedy-drama Entourage ran for eight seasons and was nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards and 14 Golden Globes - thus he's happy not to have to choose between being in front of or behind the camera.

"I like doing it all, it's really beneficial when you're producing a film that you're acting in, as you maintain a lot more creative control and you can fire people.

"I can't even fire an assistant. I have fired but I've rehired. I feel bad after."

The question on his fans' lips is usually: "When's Entourage the movie coming?" Wahlberg's not giving much away, but he does tease: "We're just waiting for the screen play."

Contraband is released March 16.

Titanic: Is Downton Abbey Writer Julian Fellowes' Latest Drama Just Downton On Sea? (VIDEO)

The story of the Titanic is preparing to sail back onto our screens this month, as Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes unveils his latest period-drama big-budget offering.

It has the same beautiful detailed costumes, the same clashing class systems and the same Academy Award-winning screenwriter as Downton, so what stops ITV's new four-part drama Titanic becoming just 'Downton On Sea'?

Downton Abbey's creator even admitted yesterday, at the press launch of the series, that there was "a slight temptation" to put some of the characters from his country house drama on board the ship.

However, speaking with the cast, who claim they want to take Downton's "followers on to the sea", it became clear that Titanic also deserves recognition in its own right.

Geraldine Somerville, who plays First Class passenger Louisa, Countess of Manton, explained: "I think it's really different… It's a very international cast and an international story.

"The storytelling is completely different, you've got stories that are interwoven with each other and you sometimes see the same scene and you'll see it from different characters' points of view and it's a very ensemble piece, we are all in the backgrounds of each others' shots and scenes."

Meanwhile, her strong-minded daughter Lady Georginia Grex, played by Peredita Weeks, had a confession about the 'Downton On Sea' tagline: "That's what I was calling it, maybe I started it?"

The show, which was created to mark the hundredth anniversary of the world's most famous maritime disaster in April 1912, has an 18-strong lead cast, with no one character the focus of attention.

The boilermen, the First, Second and Third Class passengers, the officers, the stewards and stewardesses and the servants all have their stories told in a way that Fellowes hopes will give a rounded image of the ship in a way not previously seen.

And where there was one central love story of Jack and Rose as in the epic Titanic film, here instead there are various love stories running between the different decks. Probably the most similar romance to that of the famous film coupling is the one between Lady Georgiana Grex and Noah Reid, played by Harry Widener, the son of an immensely wealthy Philadelphia family travelling back to the US.

Georgiana is on board the ship, begrudgingly, in First Class with her parents - her father, Hugh, Earl of Manton, is played by Linus Roache - and her very proper mother (Somerville) is not taken by her daughter's choice of partner.

There will be exclusive HuffPostUK features on Titanic in the lead up to the show's debut later this month. Meanwhile, in the video above, some of the stars of Titanic, including Celia Imrie, who plays Grace Rushton a member of the new industrial class travelling with her husband and her Pekinese dog (Imrie's own pooch), and David Calder, who plays the ship's Captain Smith, react to the show being called 'Downton On Sea'.

Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows': Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter In Character (PHOTOS)

Photos of Dark Shadows' stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Helena Bonham Carter as their characters in the Tim Burton gothic-horror tale have been unveiled in the latest issue of Vanity Fair.

Depp, who plays powerful vampire playboy Barnabas Collins, can be seen with some very sharp fingers and slick hair, while Bonham Carter - Burton's wife - who plays Dr Julia Hoffman, the Collins family's live-in psychiatrist, is pictured with copper hair and a seventies style top.

First look photos of Pfeiffer in her role as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Green as Angelique Bouchard, the witch who turns Collins into a vampire after he breaks her heart, have also been revealed.

But while the female stars still look beautiful as their Dark Shadow characters, it's unlikely Depp, who appears to sport a prosthetic nose, will make as many hearts flutter as he did when he played pirate Jack Sparrow. And Edward Cullen can rest assured - he's still the hottest blood-sucker in Hollywood.

Dark Shadows was originally a show that ran on the ABC network between 1966 and 1971, featuring ghosts, vampires, zombies and werewolves. Burton's adaptation will see Depp play the master of Collinwood Manor. He makes a grave mistake of breaking the heart of Bouchard, who not only turns him into a vampire but also buries him alive.

Two centuries after his death, Collins is inadvertently freed from his tomb. The vampire then returns to his mansion only to find his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin.

This Week In Entertainment: Oscars, The Dictator, NME Awards, Davy Jones & Justin Bieber

It was all about the Oscars this week, as Hollywood played host to the biggest night on the showbiz calendar. Silent film The Artist scooped the prize for Best Picture, which, after its domination throughout awards season, came as little surprise. The film's French star Jean Dujardin picked up the Best Actor gong, swore in French, apologised to his disapproving mama and was subsequently mobbed on his return to Paris, while Meryl Streep, dressed in what looked like an Oscar statuette, won Best Actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

Talk quickly turned to the best and worst dressed stars on the red carpet - Jennifer Lopez looked stunning, but Emma Stone made a fatal fashion faux-pas. However, all these stories were eclipsed by the mischief-making antics of one Mr Sacha Baron Cohen.

The Bruno actor decided to arrive on the red carpet dressed as his latest character - General Admiral Aladeen from The Dictator - despite being warned against it by the Academy.

In true Cohen style, he caused chaos as he spilt the ashes, apparently, (although they looked suspiciously like pancake mix) of North Korean late dictator Kim Jong-il on to US presenter Ryan Seacrest's jacket during their interview.

The Dictator was unabashed, comforting Seacrest with: "You can say you are wearing Kim Jong-il" - before he was unceremoniously bundled off by stone-faced security guards.

Back across the pond, Florence Welch broke Adele's award-winning run when she beat the Brit and Grammy winner to Best Solo Artist at the NME Awards.Flamboyant singer Welch also won Best Track for Shake It Out, while Noel Gallagher was declared a "Godlike Genius" at the ceremony.

The event was somewhat overshadowed by the news that The Monkees' frontman Davy Jones had died, aged 66, of a heart attack that evening. Kasabian paid tribute to the Daydream Believer singer by singing the Monkees theme song as they accepted the gong for Best British Band.

Meanwhile, Jones' bandmates expressed their sadness at his sudden passing. Micky Dolenz said he had been left "bewildered" and Peter Tork said in a statement on Facebook: "His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family. Adios, to the Manchester Cowboy. Peace and love, Peter T."

And finally, the world - or maybe just millions of teenage girls - celebrated the 18th birthday of teen superstar Justin Bieber. The Baby singer has had a meteoric rise to fame - since posting videos of himself singing on YouTube, he's now had two number one albums, racked up 57 music awards and is reported to have earned over $57m in the last year - not bad for a boy critics called a "one-hit wonder".

Sport Relief: 'Made In Chelsea' Cast Run The Mile - Reality TV Made Worthy?

$

Sport Relief is not only raising millions to change lives at home and in some of the world’s poorest countries, it's also getting reality TV stars to do something beneficial...

Torn from the comfort of the Kings Road, the Made In Chelsea cast yesterday swapped their Burberry garbs for Nike shorts to run a mile for the charity.

Show favourites Millie Mackintosh, Mark Francis, Francesca “Cheska” Hull, Rosie Fortescue, Fredrik Ferrier, Oliver Proudlock and Jamie Laing were split into two teams and went head-to-head in a relay.

And it wasn't just for the chance to be photographed or shed a few pounds that the wealthy stars took part, the cast sweated it out with the aim of encouraging the nation to take part in one of the hundreds of Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile events taking place across the UK on Sunday 25th March by entering the Mile at www.sportrelief.com.

The Made In Chelsea gang aren't the first reality stars to back Sport Relief and do something charitable with their new-found fame - hitherto largely earned by hanging out in their favourite hot spots glugging champagne. Former stars of their rival show, The Only Way Is Essex, have also put their best feet forward.

Amy Childs and Harry Derbridge joined forces to raise money on the BBC contest Let's Dance For Sport Relief, at which they performed as Britney and Madonna in the iconic video for Me Against The Music.

Despite promising never to wear fancy dress again after an infamous episode of TOWIE saw him dress up as Lady Gaga, Harry had decided that Sport Relief was such a worthy cause that he had to dress up, his own mum revealed.

It's not often reality TV stars get a mention in the same sentence as altruism, but - who knows? - if these reality stars can inspire at least one of their fans to donate to this worthy cause, then perhaps the MIC and TOWIE cast are good for more than just a few easy laughs...

Keith Allen Meets Nick Griffin - 11.05pm, Channel 4

Nick Griffin's not a man many would like to meet, but Keith Allen, with his well-documented anti-fascist views, felt he had a duty to discover what was behind all the headlines.

Writing in the Belfast Telegraph, Allen says: "The programme was born out of us watching how the media covered the notorious edition of BBC1's Question Time that featured Griffin shortly before the last election. The media declared that he'd been humiliated, and that the BNP had been trounced in the subsequent election.

"Yet the BNP actually almost trebled its vote, from 192,746 in 2005 to 563,743 in 2010. Why were the media insisting that the BNP had been annihilated, rather than focusing on the disturbing fact that well over half a million people had voted for them?"

The documentary, which sees Allen travel to Brussels to see Griffin in action at the European Parliament, was "completed a few months ago" but only after a "tourette-like outburst" from its producer to Channel 4 execs has it finally made it onto screen.

The Voice: New BBC Show Leads 'Strictly' Judges To Demand More Cash - Do They Deserve It?

$
0
0
Strictly Come Dancing's remaining judges are reportedly demanding more money after seeing how much the coaches on BBC1's new talent show The Voice are being paid.

The Sun newspaper reports Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood currently earn around £90,000 each for a series - not bad for sitting behind a desk and commenting on some amateur star's cha-cha-cha twice a weekend.

However, they are allegedly put out that international popstar US rapper Will.i.am, who has signed up to be one of The Voice's four coaches, is reportedly on a deal worth £500,000.

Joining Will.i.am in the hunt for the next big unsigned act, which differs from the X Factor in that the coaches cannot initially see who is singing - they can only hear 'the voice' - is Sir Tom Jones, estimated to be on £300,000. Less established star Jessie J will pick up £200,000 and the Script's frontman Danny O'Donoghue £100,000.

A BBC source told the paper: "When they come to renegotiate their contracts the BBC will bear in mind that last year's series was one of the best ever — and their new deals will reflect that and they will be paid accordingly."

But should Strictly's stars really expect to be paid as much as these world famous singers?

The BBC was no doubt forced to offer its coaches on The Voice huge sums to secure their place on the show. After spending £22m of licence fee payers' money on the rights to the singing show, it needs to pull in the viewers and big names are one obvious way to do that. The US panel includes Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, country star Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green.

The BBC initially secured the UK rights to the show, devised by the creator of Big Brother, after a bidding war with ITV, who reportedly offered £10m more but failed to clinch the deal.

The show sees contestants perform a 'blind audition'. When the coaches have blindly picked 10 acts each, the process of whittling down their acts for the live performance rounds begins. Eventually the winner lands a record deal with Universal Music.

This isn't the first time stories about the Strictly judges' salaries have emerged, but in 2009 head judge Goodman seemed far less upset about what he was earning.

He told the BBC: "I think we'll probably be asked to take a pay cut which I understand, we are in the middle of a recession,

"The job's brilliant. It's not exactly working on the docks - which I did for 10 years - is it?

"It's a joy so anything I get I always feel a bit of a fraud, so I don't mind if they knock off a couple of bob."

Downton Abbey: Are Dame Maggie Smith And Dan Stevens Walking Off The Estate?

$

Fear has been installed into the heart of Downton Abbey fans today as reports claimed the show's formidable Dowager Countess and the Abbey's resident heartthrob Matt Crawley may not be taking tea in the drawing room in further series.

The Mirror reports Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the elderly Dowager, is considering her future on the Golden Globe winning drama. And they added: "Her agent yesterday confirmed that the Oscar-winning screen legend had yet to sign up or even enter negotiations for series four."

TV Line have reported that most of the principal cast of ITV's period-drama phenomenon — including Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora), Hugh Bonneville (Robert), Joanne Froggatt (Anna) and Brendan Coyle (Bates) — have signed new deals to appear throughout the show's fourth and fifth seasons.

This has led to fears that Dame Maggie isn't planning to return after the third series, which is currently being filmed and is expected on screens in the autumn. Neither, just as worryingly, has there been any mention of a reappearance by Dan Stevens, who plays Crawley.

However, it could be that Stevens, whose character is expected to marry Lady Mary in the new series after their engagement was announced during the Christmas Day special, is just biding his time to see if a fourth and fifth series are commissioned. Or perhaps he and Smith are waiting to see how their storylines develop into series three.

A spokesman for Downton Abbey's UK producer Carnival told The Mirror: "We are currently filming series three of Downton Abbey in which all the cast have returned.

"ITV have not yet commissioned a fourth and fifth series which, if they happen, would be a long way off."

Smith's character, witty matriarch Dowager Countess, earned a place in viewers' hearts with blunt observations such as "what is a weekend?" and "so, that's Mary's replacement. Well, I suppose looks aren't everything."

In series three, her feathers are expected to be ruffled further by the arrival of another older female, played by Shirley MacLaine, who will star as Lady Crawley's American mother.

The Voice Trailer: Jessie J, Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Danny O'Donoghue Take Their Seats

The launch of The Voice, the BBC's new singing contest with a difference, is getting ever closer and today the show's first full-length trailer debuted.

The clip sees the reality show's esteemed coaches - Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Jessie J, and Danny O'Donoghue - react to the first 'voice' to be showcased on screen so far.

Although not very meaty, the trailer does introduce viewers to the show's unusual format in which auditions are blind and the coaches are tasked with pressing their red button if they like the sound of the contestant's voice - without any looking at his or her face! The hope is that this eliminates anyone getting into the next round of the competition based on the way they look or other appealing factors.

Today it was reported Strictly Come Dancing's remaining judges are demanding more money after seeing how much the coaches on The Voice are being paid (Black Eyed Pea star Will.i.am is is reportedly on a deal worth £500,000).

And now it looks like the Strictly gang have something else to be jealous of - The Voice coaches' red swiveling chairs are far superior to the ballroom show's glittery desk.

Read interviews with The Voice's coaches on the site from Monday, with full coverage of the show starting from Saturday 24 March.

Jennifer Aniston And Cameron Diaz To Compete For Comedy Award - Who's Funnier? (VOTE)

$

Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz are to go head-to-head for the title of funniest woman, with both of them being nominated for Best Actress at the Second Annual Comedy Awards.

Bridesmaids stars Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy and Crazy, Stupid, Love star Emma Stone are also up for the Best Actress category, however, none have the same long-standing rivalry as Aniston and Diaz.

Diaz's latest film Bad Teacher, in which she plays a foul-mouthed, ruthless and inappropriate teacher, was largely slated. The Rolling Stone said: "Cameron Diaz's fem spin on Billy Bob Thornton's Bad Santa should have added up to raunchy fun. Sadly, it only took about 10 minutes to wipe the smile off my face."

And Newsblaze went so far as to say it "sets back feminism a few centuries, but who cares. Because if we're talking self-criticism of the species, some women are, let's face it, what can only be termed female chauvinists. And Diaz reinforces every single negative female stereotype with relish."

However, Diaz, to be fair, has also been associated with some of the best rom-coms of the nineties. The blonde beauty made a stunning breakthrough, both in looks and comic timing, holding her own against Jim Carrey in The Mask as his love interest. From there, she went on to play the lead in one of the decade's mould-breaking movies, There's Something About Mary.

Since then, directors have continued to turn to Diaz whenever they need a likeable female, even just in voice alone. When she became the voice of Princess Fiona in the Box Office and Oscar-winning hit franchise Shrek, a whole new generation received a blast from her charm-gun.

But that doesn't mean she hasn't played a part in the dozens of bog-sub-standard rom-coms churned out of Hollywood every year, including easily forgettable films such as What Happens In Vegas, in which she stars alongside Ashton Kutcher as a women compelled, for legal reasons, to become part of a fake couple. The Holiday, In Her Shoes, The Sweetest Thing and Charlie's Angels also starred Diaz, while her next role sees her strap a prosthetic baby bump on to her perfectly-formed frame to star alongside Jennifer Lopez in What To Expect When You're Expecting.

Shrek may have given Diaz a part in one of the biggest film franchises of the past decade, but in Aniston's portfolio is a lead role in one of the most enduringly popular sitcoms ever made.

For some Aniston will always be known as Rachel from Friends, the coffee-house waitress whose ditzy charm (and much-copied haircut) is still enjoyed today on a million daily re-runs, despite the show finishing eight years ago.

The past few years have seen her carry her girl-next-door appeal over to the big screen, with mixed results. Sticking to what she knows best, she's continued to play female lead roles that women want to be friends with and men want to marry. Her part as Jennifer in Marley & Me saw her an adorable, doomed pooch play her main companion (with Owen Wilson in a bystander's role); in Just Go With It, it was Adam Sandler carrying the hairbrush when she played his loyal assistant posing as his soon-to-be-divorced wife.

Then there are the films that tainted Aniston's credibility - The Break-Up, Rumour Has It and Love Happens can all be filed under this category. And the 1996 vroom vehicle She's The One, in which she starred against none other than... Cameron Diaz herself.

More recently, Aniston, just like Diaz, decided it was time to release her inner bad girl. Last year she starred as Dr. Julia Harris, a dentist whose sexually predatory behaviour caused all sorts of office fall-out, in Horrible Bosses.

The film, overall, received more positive feedback from the critics than Diaz's Bad Teacher.

The Standard wrote: "It's far from perfect, but it features more laughs than Bad Teacher and The Hangover Part II combined," while The Telegraph said: "Overall, a pleasant surprise."

Both actresses have had their brilliant career-defining roles, and both have had shameful parts in films they'd probably like to forget. However, it seems cinema-goers have become tired of watching Diaz pulling off her kooky character schtick, whereas Aniston fans have remained loyal, with the buzz around the Friends star still going strong eight years after her TV finale. If anyone is to take Meg Ryan's crown as the queen of rom-com, then I'd like to give it to Jen. But which star, if either, has ever truly made you laugh out loud? Or is this someone else far more deserving? Let us know in the comments below.

'Britain's Got Talent' To Start On The Same Day As 'The Voice' - Which Will You Watch?

Britain's Got Talent will start on the same day as the BBC launches its new singing contest The Voice, Alesha Dixon revealed today.

Speaking on Daybreak, the former Strictly judge, who jumped ships to be part of Simon Cowell's hit show, said: "It's going to be on March 24, so it's coming soon."

The decision to launch the new series of Britain's Got Talent on the same date as The Voice means the talent shows will embark on a ratings war similar to that usually seen between ITV's The X Factor and the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

In the past, Britain's Got Talent has launched in mid-April, but after the Beeb picked March 24 to launch their £22m show - starring coaches Jessie J, Tom Jones, Will.i.am and The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue - it seems ITV bosses decided to bring Britain's Got Talent, the show that discovered the talents of Susan Boyle, forward to the same date.

A BBC source recently told The Sun: "This is typical of ITV, parking their tanks on our lawn just as we launch a major new format.

"They are smarting because they didn't get the show although they bid £10million more than us."

Simon Cowell, who will return to take his seat on the Britain's Got Talent judging panel alongside Amanda Holden and newbies Alesha and David Walliams, has admitted he recognises the "challenge" poised by The Voice.

He told Digital Spy in January: "The BBC must be confident because they have put it up against this show.

"They want to make a competition out of it. So we've got to make [Britain's Got Talent] better. Everyone benefits because of that."

Engelbert Humperdinck, the housewives' favourite who will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, has fallen victim to a curse usually reserved for young, female stars.

After being papped in LA with his wife Patricia, the 75-year-old has been called "portly" and "heavily wrinkled", while the authenticity of his official Eurovision promotional photo has been called into question.

The Daily Mail claims "the star looked every inch his 75 years" and suggested his Eurovision picture may have been Photoshopped. However, a spokesman for the BBC told the newspaper that they had not re-touched it before using it and that it was taken ahead of his 2011 tour.

The Too Beautiful To Last singer, whose last UK hit was in 1972, will have to get used to being back in the spotlight -and the tabloids' preoccupation with appearance - as the race warms up to Eurovision. He still has over 10 weeks until the first semi-finals on the 22nd May.

But Humperdinck, who certainly scrubs up well, is happy to be part of the contest. He said in a statement this week: "It's an absolute honour to be representing my country for this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

"When the BBC approached me, it just felt right for me to be a part of an institution like Eurovision. I'm excited and raring to go and want the nation to get behind me!"

A rep for the BBC said: "Not since the '70s have we had such an established international musical legend represent the nation. We couldn't be more delighted.

"Engelbert's experience leaves us in no doubt that he will be able to deliver a standout performance in front of 120m viewers worldwide."

The first photo of Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger in the big screen adaptation of the iconic fifties Western TV series has been revealed.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer unveiled Depp as the native American spirit warrior and Hammer as the masked hero via his Twitter account.

He teased: "Got an exclusive from The Lone Ranger set coming shortly.."

Before adding: "What’s coming will show you why this isn't going to be your grandfather's Lone Ranger and Tonto.."

He then tweeted: "Tonto and The Lone Ranger Ride Again!" with the the exclusive photo attached.

The film, which also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter, sees the famed masked cowboy brought to life through new eyes, as the two unlikely heroes learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

The film, directed by Gore Verbinski, is currently shooting in New Mexico, and will be released by Walt Disney Pictures on May 31, 2013... that's only 448 days away.

'Doctor Who' Star Matt Smith Saddles Up In Spain For Wild West Episode (PHOTO)

Doctor Who star Matt Smith has been spotted travelling in a manner unusual for the Time Lord.

Smith saddled up in Spain as filming began on a special Wild West episode of the BBC One sci-fi show.

Riding over rocky terrain, the eleventh Doctor appeared to be taking his horseback ride in his stride, with a loose grip and a smile on his face.

Yesterday, we reported Smith and his onscreen sidekick Karen Gillan travelled to Almeria in southern Spain to film in the same landscape where spaghetti westerns such as A Fistful Of Dollars and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly were previously shot.

The gun-slinging scenes, to air in the third episode of the new series, will feature a showdown with a half-human, half-robot in a western town in the Victorian era.

A show source has told The Sun: "Matt and Karen are really excited about the episode. Filming on the same set as a lot of western films, together with the Spanish weather, will give it an epic feel."

A spokesperson for the BBC admits it was cheaper to film in Spain than to reproduce a western set in the UK.

Almeria is open to tourists as a theme park, complete with mock bank hold-ups and shoot-outs

Titanic 3D: Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio Reunited In Remastered Stills (PHOTOS)

Remastered stills from Titanic have been released, giving us another nostalgic look at James Cameron's 1997 epic ahead of the film's April re-release in 3D.

Cameron and his team have spent hundreds of hours turning the box office phenomenon, and winner of 14 Academy Awards, into a 3D film and at least one half of the film's starring ill-fated couple is happy with the outcome.

Kate Winslet, Oscar-nominated for her role of Rose, last month called the 3D version of Titanic "extraordinary".

She told USA Today she'd already seen a few minutes and was very excited that a new generation would be able to experience the film and her kids, Mia, 11, and Joe, eight, would be able to watch it with her for the first time.

However, she added:"I'm sure I wasn't really a very good actress. Seriously, we are talking about something that happened 15 years ago. It is a very long time ago.

"I've learned so much, and I've changed as a person so much since then. It is really quite weird. Can you imagine anything stranger? It's going to be like being famous all over again, Titanic all over again!"

There may well be new eyeballs on this film when it's re-released, including people who who were too young to see it the first time as well as those who, bizarrely, have managed to miss its frequent TV replays.

There will also be people who have already seen it dozens of times in the past, but nonetheless wish to return for another fix of their favourite fateful love story.

Just as fans returned to the cinema for Disney's recent 3D conversion of The Lion King, distributors Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox are hoping that Titanic 3D will have the same nostalgic pull. After all, they've spent a cool $18 million converting the film, but it's all relative - Titanic has taken an estimated $1.8 billion since its 1997 release.

The film will be released in 3D, Digital 2D and IMAX on April 6th, will you head to the cinema to see it?
